Study on Oral Health Information in the Child Care Literatures

Abstract
Objectives : It is important to be informed of method to control oral disease. Mostly, the control of oral health is influenced by caretaker, a mother¡¯s knowledge on child care and behavior in this stage. This study was performed to investigate oral health information in the child care literatures and provide a standard of oral health information.

Methods: We performed a survey for 110 child care literatures including the books on baby care published by formula-supplying company, child care magazines and internet sites providing child care information. Based on our survey, we examined information coverage and the quality of the contents of oral health management information.

Results : Nearly 20% of the literatures had no information on oral health. Basic information on oral health was not provided properly. Many incorrect informations were found in the literatures.

Conclusions : Incorrect informations in the literatures need to be corrected. Dentists need to be more active in both writing and editing of oral health informations for the child care literatures. Regular visit in dental clinic needs to be emphasized.
